ANNETTE SHEPHERD?

Some practitioners study transformation. I lived it first.

I didn't know I grew up in a cult until eight years after I left for the second time. From the inside, it just looked like faith. My entire understanding of worth, safety and belonging was built on fear, control and conditional love. Self-sacrifice wasn't just encouraged, it was the measure of your faith. And for women especially, obedience wasn't optional, it was doctrine. To have desires of your own, to take up space, to lead, to speak with authority, these weren't just discouraged, they were coded as dangerous, even shameful. I learned early that shrinking yourself was survival, and that abandoning yourself was the price of belonging.What I didn't know then was that this is one of the oldest and most pervasive forms of false light programming, the belief that suffering, submission and self-abandonment are noble, when in reality they disconnect us from our own power, expression, and our truth.By the time I turned 30, I had lost myself so completely beneath layers of conditioning, trauma, depression and people-pleasing that I didn't know who I was anymore. Leaving that world was one thing. Unravelling what it had built inside me, and what I had done to myself trying to survive within it and beyond it, took everything that followed.That rebuilding took 18 years, not just personally, but professionally. Every modality I hold, every certification I've earned, every tool I use with clients, I needed it first myself. That's not a marketing line. It's the only reason I can do what I do.Growing up studying scripture in depth gave me something I didn't expect to value later: a genuine understanding of spiritual hygiene, why it matters, and what happens when it's ignored. Many teachings themselves held real wisdom. It was the system built around them that caused the harm. I've seen both sides of that line, and I work firmly in the light, with full awareness of what we're actually working with.Today I work across four distinct layers of the human system, body, mind, energy and identity, because lasting change rarely lives in just one of them.
